AniMaJIC: Exploring Modern Japanese Visual Culture
Middle School, High School, and Adult (Ages 13-18+)
Welcome to AniMaJIC, where we explore Anime, Manga, Japan, and other Interesting topics of Conversation. Manga (Japanese comics) and anime (animation) combine art, narration, and often music to explore a wide range of topics related to the human experience. Whether set in a fantasy world or a more realistic environment, these works can express both the comedic and serious aspects of daily life in compelling and thought-provoking ways. This class will provide students with opportunities to watch a variety of anime and discuss the themes conveyed.
Relevant aspects of Japanese history and culture will also be discussed. This class may also plan outings to attend local events related to Japanese culture, animation, or history, as they are available. These outings are optional, and may have additional costs. Age: 13+ due to PG-13 content of some course materials and discussion topics.
